Remedial massage is a targeted, hands‑on treatment that focuses on finding and addressing the underlying cause of your muscle pain or tension. Unlike temporary relief methods, such as deep tissue massage or sports massage, remedial massage examines how your muscles, joints, and posture work together to treat the real source of your discomfort.
As a current Myotherapy student, I integrate myotherapy principles into my treatments, which focus on assessing and treating muscle, joint, and nerve pain. Myotherapy can include various techniques such as deep tissue massage, dry needling, cupping, joint mobilisation, Muscle Energy Technique (MET),Electrotherapy and targeted soft-tissue work. It’s especially beneficial for individuals experiencing ongoing pain, restricted movement, or injuries that keep resurfacing. Additionally, myotherapy can complement other therapies like pregnancy massage, remedial massage, and sports massage for a well-rounded approach to recovery.
Sports massage is an active, targeted treatment designed for individuals who train regularly or have higher physical demands. This form of massage, often complemented by deep tissue massage techniques, helps your muscles recover faster, move better, and handle loads more efficiently. By utilizing deeper pressure, stretching, and myotherapy techniques, it effectively releases tight or overworked areas resulting from training or repetitive movement.
Relaxation massage is a gentle, calming treatment designed to help your body unwind and reset. This soothing therapy focuses on calming the nervous system, reducing stress, and releasing tension through slow, flowing techniques. It’s an excellent complement to other treatments like deep tissue massage, myotherapy, or sports massage. It’s perfect when you’re feeling overwhelmed, mentally drained, or simply need time to switch off and reconnect with your body, especially during times like pregnancy when extra care is needed.
Deep tissue massage focuses on releasing chronic muscle tension by working into the deeper layers of muscle and fascia. This form of myotherapy uses slower, more targeted pressure to help break down tightness, reduce stiffness, and improve overall mobility, making it beneficial not only for athletes through sports massage but also for those seeking relief during pregnancy massage or in conjunction with remedial massage techniques.
Pregnancy massage, in my practice, is a gentle remedial massage treatment that supports the physical changes your body undergoes during pregnancy. I assess how your posture, muscle tension, and joint mobility are impacted as your body adapts, using safe, targeted techniques including deep tissue massage and myotherapy to relieve discomfort and enhance movement. This treatment specifically targets common problem areas such as the lower back, hips, glutes, legs, and shoulders, making it an essential part of your prenatal care, especially if you are also active and engaged in sports massage.
